Simultaneous Air Fraction and Low-Pressure EGR Mass Flow Rate Estimation for Diesel Engines
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes a low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation (LP-EGR) mass flow rate estimation method and a robust air mass fraction observer for a Diesel engine with dualloop EGR system. Both observers operate simultaneously eliminating the need for pressure measurement upstream the LP-EGR valve. A sliding mode observer is designed to estimate the LP-EGR mass flow rate using the standard sensors available in commercial Diesel engines. A robust linear parameter varying Kalman filter is designed for the air mass fraction estimation. The convergence and robustness of the observers are ensured by means of Lyapunov stability and a linear matrix inequality (LMI) framework for the sliding mode observer and robust Kalman filter, respectively. The observers are evaluated with a Motor Vehicle Emission Group (NMVEG) cycle using an engine model validated on an experimental benchmark as a reference.

Performance and Emission Characteristics of Dual Fuel Engines at Part Loads Using Simultaneous Effect of Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Pre-Heating of In-let Air
In this study, a numerical simulation using the CFD software, FLUENT, has been conducted to examine the effect of various shapes of the venturi component sections in order to find the optimum venturi specifications to increase the EGR rate with minimum pressure loss at the part load operation range. The CFD results reveal that the venturi should be precisely optimized to introduce the required ...
متن کاملGas flow observer for Diesel Engines with EGR
Due to stricter emission legislation, there is a need for more efficient control of diesel engines with exhaust gas recirculation(EGR). In particular, it is important to estimate the air/fuel ratio accurately in transients. Therefore a new engine gas flow model has been developed. This model divides the gas into one part for oxygen and one part for inert gases. Based on this model an observer h...

This paper is presented to study the combustion process and emissions in a direct injection diesel engine. Computations are carried out using a three-dimensional model for flows, sprays, combustion and emissions in Diesel engines. Interactions between combustion and emissions with flow field are considered and it is shown that soot mass fraction increases at regions with low turbulence inten...

This paper presents a control design method applied to diesel engines equipped with a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) and an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. The objective of this control is to reduce gas pollution to the fixed rate norms imposed by Euro v and Euro vi, Arnold et al. [2006] (Transport and E. E. Federation [2004] and Umweltbundesamt [2003]) without loosing the torque p...
متن کاملEvaluate the effect of biodiesel and EGR system on diesel engine emissions
Vehicle Emission is one of the main causes of environmental damage. Vehicle engines produce carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrocarbon (HC), Nitrogen oxides (NOx) and many other harmful substances. An investigation was conducted using a compression-ignition engine fuelled with different ratios of blends of diesel and biodiesel at different EGR rates. The effects of different ratios of fuel blends and EG...
